  • Animals or art?

I think you have two podcast ideas here… cool animal facts and animals in pop culture.. so maybe pick one and go all in on one idea because the two are not really working together and makes for a confusing and disappointing listen. Honestly the animal facts and experts are the best part.

  • Why the dial zone?

I listen to this podcast in the car. I do not watch it. I have no idea why there is a dial tone at the beginning of every episode and randomly throughout. It wakes up my children if they are asleep. Needs to be removed. Love the content, but can’t even listen because of the dial tone and every single episode multiple times.

  • Change the hosts

Hosts are not good. So boring… they need more energy, and it needs to sound natural not like they’re reading from a paper.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How Do Snails Make Slime?
Q: And we were wondering, how do snails make slime?
The slime is produced by multiple gland-like cells distributed across the snail's skin, which secrete various components that mix to form different kinds of slime for adhesion, lubrication, and defense; the process varies between terrestrial and marine species and is still an active area of study.
Why Do Cats Have Whiskers?
Q: Do you plan ahead for cat involvement in videos, or is filming more spontaneous when the cats are around?
They usually plan ahead to match the cats' comfort and the recording setup, choosing instruments and scenes the cats can safely interact with, and they don't force the cats to stay if they're not into it.
Why Do Cats Have Whiskers?
Q: Lita asks why cats have whiskers, and what makes them so important for feline navigation?
The hosts explain that whiskers are highly sensitive keratin hairs (vibrissae) embedded deep in the skin, acting like radar to help cats sense the space in front of them, especially since they can't focus on close objects.
Why Are the Middle Fingers of Aye-Ayes So Long?
Q: Why are the Aye-Aye's middle fingers so long?
Because the long middle finger acts like a specialized tool for foraging, helping the Aye-Aye reach and extract insect larvae hidden deep inside wood after the animal taps and listens to differentiate solid wood from hollow spaces.
BONUS: Leapin' Lemurs with Dr. Tim Eppley
Q: So Tim, how did you get started in all of this?
Tim describes growing up obsessed with animals, pursuing education in zoology and primates, interning at the San Antonio Zoo with primates, and eventually joining Madagascar programs. A pivotal study-abroad opportunity and ongoing fieldwork with lemurs shaped his path toward leading conservation work with Wildlife Madagascar.
