  • What’s your water story?

I love hearing about fellow Minnesotans’ relationships with water and this podcast does just that. Sharing water stories helps me to connect and build relationships with the people in my life and the people I meet. The traveling exhibit and programming is amazing too!

  • this podcast is produced by the MNPCA

the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency helped produce this podcast. This same agency approved water crossing permits for Enbridge’s Line 3 pipeline expansion that has been proven to pollute air and water. It also violates treaty rights, endangers Indigenous communities, and is fiscally wreckless.

MNPCA has proven it’s worth as an agency is nothing more than toothless pageantry and you can expect nothing more from anything they produce.

Raised By the Swamp: Finding healing in water
Q: How has your personal relationship with water shaped your approach to healing and teaching?
Water and natural surroundings provide a multisensory, evolutionary context that helps people feel safe, calm, and connected; my own memories of playing near swamps and lakes shaped a belief that nature is a powerful conduit for mental health and learning.
Raised By the Swamp: Finding healing in water
Q: What are you doing to build that connection with nature for kids?
We train adults who work with youth, in libraries, YMCAs, and after-school settings, and we also train mental health professionals to use nature-based therapy in schools to help kids dealing with mental health challenges.
Beneath the Surface: How Rivers Are Changing
Q: OK, Brett, how did you end up in the field of freshwater mussels and river biology?
I started with a college project sampling rivers for mussels, turned that early experience into a career by focusing on their ecology and life cycles, and now work on understanding how rivers shape, and are shaped by, those species.
52 | How Can Hosting an Exhibit Spark Lasting Change?

Their childhood experiences and educational backgrounds sparked a passion for water stewardship and community engagement.
