  • Wonderful insights

I have only recently listened to one episode. The ketamine therapy insight was what brought me here to listen. I am possibly going to have a session with a therapist under a safe medically appropriate place and I am seeking information on how’s and why’s this treatment might be recommended. I found most of my questions answered and am listening to more episodes seeking a better understanding on the after sessions and potentially a documentation process that I might following my potential session... more

  • Comprehensive

This podcast never disappoints. What I like about it so much is how it’s very multidisciplinary and talks about ‘the third wave’ from so many angles.

  • Infomercials for “enlightened” wealthy entrepreneurs

The “oil and gas” guy is the most recent and egregious example, but most episodes follow the same format. Some wealthy individual starts by humblebragging about all their material needs being met beyond imagination, and then goes on to explain why that doesn’t matter anymore but they still have a product to sell. How about speaking to some ordinary people outside your privileged bubble about how they use psychedelics to deal with their ordinary lives?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Right to Try Psilocybin: Law, Death, and Dignity - Kathryn L. Tucker, J.D.
Q: My first question is, what originally drew you into legal advocacy around patients' rights and end-of-life autonomy?
I pursued public-interest work in Washington and Oregon and helped campaigns for Death with Dignity, recognizing a need for individual liberty and autonomy at end of life; I then expanded to federal and state cases, focusing on regulated, safe access to psilocybin as the trials emerged and showed meaningful relief for existential distress in seriously ill patients.
Western Philosophy on Drugs: Consciousness, Dreams, and Reality - Justin Smith-Ruiu
Q: What is the role of medicalization in making psychedelics more mainstream, and what are the risks?
Medicalization can normalize access but risks narrowing the transformative potential of psychedelics by framing them mainly as treatments, potentially overlooking existential and cultural dimensions and turning personal transformation into a therapeutic outcome rather than a broader shift in worldview.
Western Philosophy on Drugs: Consciousness, Dreams, and Reality - Justin Smith-Ruiu
Q: Do you think Western philosophy can transform to accommodate paradox and a fuller spectrum of cognitive states?
Yes, but it requires a shift toward personalistic philosophy that centers the whole person and recognizes that some human experiences are irreducibly human and may resist full explanation, not merely classifying them as anomalies.
Western Philosophy on Drugs: Consciousness, Dreams, and Reality - Justin Smith-Ruiu
Q: How do psychedelics challenge the foundations of Western philosophy, especially in relation to Cartesian rationalism?
Psychedelics reveal experiences that resist traditional propositional language and force philosophers to consider realities that go beyond the law of the excluded middle, prompting a broader, more inclusive approach to understanding consciousness and truth.
Herbal Ecstasy & The Billion Dollar Smart Drug Boom - Shaahin Cheyene
Q: What do you see as the most important considerations for practitioners or entrepreneurs entering this space today?
Emphasize safety, education, and moderation; recognize that different plants affect people differently, and focus on responsible usage, integration, and building a community around education rather than selling hype.
