Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S15E17 – What’s in the Briefcase? w/ Michael Oakley
Q: What sparked the idea for the Prologue album title?
Oakley felt the need to go back to the start and remember why he loved making music, using Prologue as a reset that opens a new chapter and primes the listener for the subsequent Disc/Dialogue/Epilogue arc.
S15E15 – Stranger Ways w/ Midnight Danger
Q: How has moving to Sweden influenced your music and career?
Moving to Sweden exposed me to a different music culture and allowed me to pursue a more focused path in synthwave with live guitar, which eventually led to Midnight Danger's growth and new collaborations.
S15E15 – Stranger Ways w/ Midnight Danger
Q: What inspired the Stranger Days/Stranger Days album concept, and is it connected to Stranger Things?
Stranger Days drew on cyberpunk and 80s dystopia; it was not specifically a Stranger Things reference, but it fits the mood of that era and vibe, which fans often associate with the show.
S15E15 – Stranger Ways w/ Midnight Danger
Q: When did you start Midnight Danger, and was it your plan to front a project with guitar in synthwave?
I started Midnight Danger as a solo project around 2015 with the idea of making synthwave in my home studio, doing guitar parts only where the song asked for it, and gradually built it into a live setup.
S15E16 – Crepes and Honey w/ Jessy Mach
Q: When did you start playing music and how did your early experiences shape your synthwave direction?
Jessy Mach explains starting piano at a young age, moving through rock and metal in Toulouse, becoming a music teacher in Nice, and gradually transitioning to electronic production while maintaining strong melodic and hook-driven sensibilities.
