  • May الله ta’aalaa reward everyone involved in the production of this podcast

From Ustashi Dr. Shadee Al Masry just spitting nothin’ but facts, to the patreons paying even the smallest tier, to the renters living in the rooms (above?); may الله reward you all immensely. My Dua is nothing compared to the angels who already make Dua for you, I just want to send you my appreciation - which means nothing.

  • LOVE THIS PODCAST

Can you guys bring back the whole team? I like solo Shaykh Shadee because he’s witty and funny on his own but there’s a different experience listening to him crack on with his boys (Sidi Alex especially - he needs his own podcast wallah).

Best Shaykh to grace the internet. I hope you guys realise this platform and everybody behind the scenes who made it possible thank you. This has enlivened me and my besties discussions and got us to read up on our deen. I’m now a hafidh al quran now

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ramadan & Zakat with Dr Hatem al-Haj & Shaykh Hamza Maqbul || NBF 546 || Dr Shadee Elmasry
Q: Can Zakat funds be given to non-Muslim leaders to influence policy?
The discussion acknowledges that some classical jurists allowed mu'allafa quloobuhum to include non-Muslims in certain contexts, but emphasizes that the broader application to political lobbying is debated and not universally accepted; the decision hinges on the interpretive framework and safeguards.
Ramadan & Zakat with Dr Hatem al-Haj & Shaykh Hamza Maqbul || NBF 546 || Dr Shadee Elmasry
Q: What is the usul behind the fatwa?
The usul centers on grounding the ruling in Qur'anic text about recipients of Zakat, referencing the fourth category and, to some extent, the seventh category, while weighing the holdings of Hanbali and Maliki madhhabs and considering contemporary scholarship.
Ramadan & Zakat with Dr Hatem al-Haj & Shaykh Hamza Maqbul || NBF 546 || Dr Shadee Elmasry
Q: What was the need that spurred the fatwa?
Scholars identified a need to address funding for political lobbying within an Islamic framework, considering the impact on Muslim communities and governance, and to discuss whether such funding could be justified under mu'allafatu quloobuhum or fi sabīl allāh.
Dawa Lessons || NBF 553 || Imam Safwan Eid
Q: How should we translate divine names without misrepresenting emotion or meaning?
Strive for translations that preserve meaning while acknowledging the divine attributes; use scholarly guidance and consider the implications of language on belief, taking care not to anthropomorphize or overly constrain the divine with human emotion.
Hadith Rejectors Eviscerated || NBF 552 || Dr Shadee Elmasry
Q: What is the main critique of Quran-only thought presented in this episode?
The hosts argue that the Quran alone cannot be practically and meaningfully applied without the Prophet's explanation, the Sunnah, and the transmission of the Sahaba; without these, one cannot determine details like prayer times, fasting months, or even the correct observance of Jum'ah, making the Quran-only approach insufficient and potentially leading to disbelief.
