Though Maggie Rogers began songwriting in her teens, it wasn't until Pharrell Williams critiqued her masterclass at NYU when she got her big break. Many of the songs on "Heard It In A Past Life" deal with this overnight success and all the waves of e... more
In this episode, we're diving into one of punk's most enduring albums, "Marquee Moon" from 1977. We'll talk about Television's role in CBGB & OMFUG becoming the epicenter of American punk and the history of the venue, as well as the friendship and la... more
"After Hours" is like a film noir in album format. It depicts the rise and fall of an anti-hero, The Character, as he admits that his loneliness is more unbearable than he lets on. In this episode, we discuss The Weeknd's whole visual campaign around... more
In this episode, I talk to music writer Jamieson Cox, whose work has been featured in Pitchfork, Time Magazine, and more. We discuss how he finds new music, what made him get into criticism, and towing the line between having a hobby and keeping it o... more
Even though metal isn't at the top of my list, "Colors" is one of the most interesting albums I've heard in a long time. Between The Buried And Me is a progressive metal band made up of virtuosos and friends, most of whom have been playing together s... more

One of my personal goals for 2021 was to listen to a LOT more new music, or at least "new" to me. In this episode, I'm sharing 10 albums I just listened to for the very first time recently. To be fair, a few of these just came out in 2021 so they are... more
In the final installment of our Mariah Carey series, we get into the later years of her career, the tryst with Derek Jeter that was the catalyst to ending her abusive marriage, and the surprising side hustle Mariah was working on during the recording... more
Honestly I just freaking love the way Justine says the word episode. I listen for it every time.
But it’s seriously an excellent podcast that she puts so much time and effort into. I have learned a lot of things about several albums I thought I knew inside and out. It’s so cool to hear the backstory of albums I love like Lateralus, Dummy, and Elephant. Looking forward to many more!
While I like hearing about the classic songs and albums from years past, I really enjoyed the episode on “great albums I just realized existed.” It was a fun mix of styles and a nice change of pace to hear some new music. I would love to hear more episodes like this occasionally.
Awesome ep on AIC. I just found this podcast and I’m really enjoying it. I’m on the Smashing Pumpkins ep now which is off to a great start. The spirit in the sky and take on me eps were great as well.
Really enjoyed this podcast. So fresh and fun!
I have learned so much about the making of bands and music through this series. It helps that I share many of her tastes, but I have deepened my appreciation of music I already liked and Justine has also introduced me to different bands that I now follow. I like how she invites guests to round out the back story or add an additional emotional reaction to the music.
I thought I knew a lot about this album, but this excellently researched review has taught me a lot more; notably the real reason why the Kinks were kicked out of the States.
I suspect the caster has paid insufficient attention to the 2 Preservation albums though. These are not easy, but are to my mind an update to the Village Green Preservation Society. Shepherds of the Nation, on Act 2, in particular gives an update on this special interest group, which is modern and thoroughly unpleasant.
Amazing each episode of this podcast can be researched and written in only one week, it’s very well done. Not to be locked into one or two musical genres, the host obviously cares about music spanning many decades, and covers them with love. Tight!
Thanks to Justine’s thorough research and obvious passion for all music, this podcast will open your eyes and ears to new music, as well as shine a new light on music you already love. So good!
The episodes are so great. Every time I hear one it gives me new appreciation for songs or even whole albums that I’ve overlooked. The Death Cab episode was especially great, shout out DJ Pie
Episode 47, covering The Carpenters, almost made me cry. I love how the host keeps it real, about what she likes or doesn’t like (Richard’s songs? Meh.) One of my new favorite podcasts.
Most underrated and awesome music podcast out there! Such good musical diversity and attention to cultural context. Thanks so much for putting this out there!
A lot of the content I consume in podcast form are sports podcasts that are out of date if you don’t listen to them right away. I’m always on the lookout for new podcasts that I can listen to anytime. Radio Ga Ga is a perfect evergreen podcast, teaching me more about things I already am interested in. Justine does a lot of research and gets me to think more about the music I’ve listened to for years.
This podcast has given me so much joy as someone who has a passion for music and song writing. Justine is so bright, she researches the topics with a passion for understanding and accuracy, and she brings on great guests who have specialized knowledge. I have learned so many things from this podcast - I feel much more informed and can enjoy albums in new ways. It feels like the best balance of music clips and talking. Plus, Justine’s voice is extraordinarily pleasant and perfect for a podcast. S... more
Justine puts a ton of work into these episodes and it shows. I love revisiting some of my fav records and songs through this show and always look forward to new episodes!
The RADIO GA GA Podcast, a great new addition to my weekly music podcasts. I’ve listened to the Jason Isbell - Southeastern and Arcade Fire - Suburbs episodes, both excellent. Learned a lot about 2 albums that I already love.
