Heroes of the Faith - Revival Women - with David Thomas
Q: Why does God elevate women's voices in revival, and what about the controversy that can arise?
The guest notes that during revival, the Spirit seems to elevate often overlooked voices, including women, because such times reveal deeper interdependence and a need for diverse expressions of prayer and leadership, even though it can provoke theological pushback; the takeaway is that diverse voices enrich and propel renewal.
Heroes of the Faith - Revival Women - with David Thomas
Q: Why start with women like Susanna Wesley when discussing revival history?
David explains that Susanna Wesley embodies a model of female spiritual leadership that influenced John Wesley and the broader revival movement, illustrating how women's proactive faith and organizing of prayer meetings helped sustain early evangelical work.
Heroes of the Faith - Pandita Ramabai - with Dr Kate Coleman
Q: What is Ramabai's legacy in terms of education and language?
She translated the Bible into her mother tongue to enable illiterate women to read and learn, and she established a literacy-focused, leadership-developing community that trained women to become teachers and organizers, laying groundwork for women's empowerment in India.
Heroes of the Faith - Pandita Ramabai - with Dr Kate Coleman
Q: How did Ramabai's encounter with Christianity shape her path?
Her exposure to Christian communities in England and the story of Jesus's teachings about equality and dignity for women inspired her to resist cultural marginalization and to integrate spiritual renewal with social reform through education and community building.
Heroes of the Faith - Pandita Ramabai - with Dr Kate Coleman
Q: What was the turning point that propelled Pandita Ramabai from tragedy to leadership?
The trigger was her becoming a widow and experiencing the social cruelties and exclusions faced by widows in India, which awakened her to fight for education and dignity for women and fueled her lifelong mission.
