Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Habits Over Systems: The Coaching Style of Bentley's Andy Jones
Q: What does it mean to you when players focus on effort and curiosity?
For me, effort and curiosity are fundamental principles. It's about wanting to improve and investing oneself in both academics and hockey.
Breaking New Ground: Peter Masters on the Rise of the Junior Bruins and Masters Academy International
Q: What do you think about the individual development vs. team structure?
There's only so much time a core team can get at the rank, so individual development is critical, but it needs to be balanced with team training.
Breaking New Ground: Peter Masters on the Rise of the Junior Bruins and Masters Academy International
Q: What led you guys to move into creating an academy?
The idea came from the need to combine sports and top-tier academics to offer a comprehensive development model, inspired by the success of private schools and the challenges players face in traditional settings.
Breaking New Ground: Peter Masters on the Rise of the Junior Bruins and Masters Academy International
Q: How are you guys the same or different and who does what?
Chris and I grew up just 18 months apart and so hockey was a major part of our lives, but we split responsibilities in our programming: Chris handles 16 and below, while I handle 16 to 20 year olds.
Mastering the Game: Insights with Trevor Edwards, GM of Dubuque Fighting Saints
Q: What advice do you have for parents that maybe don't come from the game on how to assess?
Look at the history and reputation of the coach, their interaction with players, and the overall environment during practices.
