  • Using and talking about AI

I’ve been listening since nearly the beginning. I think I’m going to have to sunset this show now that they use and talk about generative AI even though they know the many problems with it :( It really sucks that AI is creeping into everything.

  • Left wing show

Funny how they don’t mention what a train wreck their president Biden is, but they bash republicans daily. If you like to listen to a socialist-racist and a leftist side kick that laughs at the dumb jokes like a stoner, this is the show for you. They seem to like questionable behavior of others and have a clear agenda against Elon Musk or anyone not a communist. Typical Tampon users

  • Blerp bleep

Great show, looong time listener. I just wish they’d re-introduce guests for those of us who take prolonged breaks when life gets in the way (or for new listeners!). Who’s Monica? Where’s Gidgit? Has TV’s Travis replaced her? Why has the “call now” been replaced with AI messages?

  • A+ banter and topics

The vibe between Scott and Brian just works. Listen to a few episodes and see for yourself; it may take some time to pick up on their personalities, but they are top tier entertainment after you get to know them.

  • Vibe seems off lately

I’ve listened to this podcast for many years, as far back as the 2010s I can remember. But lately I can barely make it through episodes. I feel like the things they talk about is rambling or out of touch, or so very specific to them that I can’t relate. I’ll keep listening to give them benefit of a doubt for a while longer, but the spark once there, seems dull now.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

TMS 3020: Fletcher Invasion
Q: What is the most interesting upcoming live event mentioned for the show?
A live TMS show featuring Fletcher, Dunaway, and Christine, with tickets or attendance coordinated through the patreon-supported community and a schedule update.
TMS 3004: Parmigone
Q: What is OpenClaw and why is everyone talking about it as the future of computing?
Tom explains that OpenClaw is an open-source autonomous agent you control, typically running on a private setup whether on a Mac mini, a private server, or a cloud instance, with guard rails and safety considerations. It can integrate with various AI services and operate via messaging interfaces, enabling tasks like email and scheduling, while highlighting privacy trade-offs and the need for careful configuration.
TMS 3001: Medal of Amber
Q: What is the significance of Google's 10,000-qubit processor and could that impact encryption soon?
Tom Merritt explains that while the milestone signals progress toward quantum supremacy, it does not immediately break encryption because real-world systems require many more logical qubits and robust error correction; it's a gradual path with years of work still ahead.
TMS 2998: Sephora for Men
Q: What can a 59-year-old in a disrupted career do to find stability in a rapidly changing world?
Wendi suggests identifying what has historically grounded the person, creating small, controllable routines (like touching water, spending time outdoors, or a simple daily ritual), curating online content to positive and constructive inputs, and reframing the disruption as a new phase with potential for meaningful change.
TMS 2993: Injectable Meat
Q: Why is Moore's Law considered dead or not, and what are the practical implications for CPUs today?
Moore's Law isn't dead in spirit; the raw transistor count on a single die may stop doubling routinely, but overall performance continues to improve through architecture innovations, multi-die packaging, chiplets, 3D stacking, and specialized cores. The industry tracks performance gains rather than literal transistor doubling, and new packaging and design techniques keep scaling meaningful.
