I'm used to listening to stories in the form of podcasts without a narrator, but listening to these stories is still great.
Step into the Lavender Tavern to hear tales of love, loss, magic, and mystery. I found myself absolutely enchanted by the tales and delighted by the LGBTQ+ content. The cadence of the narration, the flow of the writing, and the pacing of the storytelling all work together to create an engaging listening experience.
I came to this podcast via the wonderful Ben Meredith, but honestly both seasons are magical. The Tavern at the End of the World, which Joe Cruz absolutely kills, is my favorite episode. I won’t spoil, I’ll just say that it’s the first fairy tale in which I’ve ever seen myself.
This podcast was a delight! Each story really captured the feeling of an old fairy tale perfectly, all homey and magical, in a way that was really delightful as to hear a queer person who traditionally hasn’t been included in those kinds of stories. There were some sweet romances and stories that didn’t involve romance at all, which I really appreciated, and a ton of lovable, memorable characters. I'm only 3 episodes in but I think I'm safe in saying this is a very well put together podcast, often I wonder about where the tradition of storytelling has developed to since the days of sitting around the campfire, I hope it's not to excessive of me to say that it resides in podcasts like The Lavender Tavern, it's well written, simple storytelling, there's a certain comfort in that.
