  • JJ is great. Best Ball Bro has to stop

I’m so sick of hearing about best ball. JJ is great for prospecting, and I enjoy most of the in season content too, but this marks year 3 of rolling my eyes that we’re doing a whole weekly best ball show again.

  • Great show, but…

Too technical, at times, with JJ’s analytics (ZAP model, breakout scores, draft capital, etc). I have to believe that the average listener, like me, is simply getting lost. And the nearly constant talk about these proprietary analytics, metrics and models (in some shows); it’s tone deaf and hard to listen to. It comes across as incessant self-promotion. Because so few of us are going to be able to fully understand all this process, let alone apply it ourselves. When the hosts are talking about a... more

  • Best Damn Football analyst in the business!

JJ brings the best damn analysis for football, not just Fantasy, I mean football 🏈 which you can translate to fantasy, and it’s not just a “one hit wonder” thing, he keeps bringing it week after week! Now I’m a big fan of data-based analysis - not for everyone- but his research and analytics gives you superb insight into not only how to draft and play FF but understanding the NFL metaverse! Wish I had discovered him years ago! Love JJ!

JJ is one of my favorite analysts to listen to. Consume his content to avoid getting owned in his Fantasy League. Almost as good as his fishing podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

1104: Mailbag - Optimal Redraft Strategy, Jaylen Warren, and More
Q: In the Pittsburgh backfield, is there a clear split between Warren and Dowdell, and who might dominate pass work vs base rushing work? Is Caleb Johnson in consideration?
Warren is viewed as a solid pick in this era due to his pass-catching role and upside; Dowdell could see more ground work, but Warren's target share and the offense's path suggest Warren will remain a primary pass catcher while Dowdell might handle more base rushing in certain setups; Caleb Johnson's season was considered but Warren remains a better bet for fantasy in many scenarios.
1104: Mailbag - Optimal Redraft Strategy, Jaylen Warren, and More
Q: Why is the community so scared and seemingly totally out on RJ Harvey? His price seems reasonable. He scores touchdowns and catches passes in a good offense.
While Harvey's 1.36 yards per route run is solid, it's a red flag that usually doesn't translate into strong mid-round upside; however, Warren and Dowdle in the same range show that backfield ambiguity and pass-catching roles can still make these players viable, depending on how the offense develops.
1100: Mailbag - Kaelon Black, Model Discrepancies, and More
Q: What is your process on Kaelon Black?
I look at age, production signals, and how they translate to NFL potential, then weigh draft capital and scheme. Kaelon Black shows red flags in age-adjusted production and efficiency metrics, and while he has some positives like size and a solid Pro Day speed score, the overall profile is below average for a Day 2 back. However, draft capital and coaching context can still influence outcomes, so I don't call him a fade outright in this weak class, just a player with limited upside in a competitive field.
1097: Mailbag - Tyler Shough, 12 Personnel, and More
Q: What makes a good fantasy model, and how should we evaluate overfitting or model inputs?
A good model should have a clear goal (like predicting B2S over the first three seasons) and be tested against a sensible benchmark. It's important to understand what the model is measuring, how far its signals stray from known draft capital, and to avoid overfitting by using broader inputs and acknowledging uncertainty rather than presenting a single perfect outcome.
Late-Round Perspectives: Addison Hayes
Q: Why is threshold analysis controversial, and how do you mitigate that in practice?
Threshold analyses can oversimplify evaluation by forcing a single cutoff. The Marker System emphasizes multiple inputs across production, athleticism, and draft capital, plus age and experience, to create a more robust, context-rich assessment rather than relying on one metric.
