A new music podcast from writer, researcher & producer Sophie Abramowitz, artist & musician Sarah Bachman, and folklorist, writer & SPINSTER co-owner Emily Hilliard. The tongue-in-cheek name is inspired by the phenomenon of women folk musicians of the 20th-21st centuries being dubbed, for better or worse (usually worse), “the female Bob Dylan.” This is a podcast about gender & genre, singer-songwr... more

So fascinating, well researched and funny. Can’t wait for the rest of the episodes
Great topic, great chemistry, and a great listen. Can’t wait for the rest of the episodes!
Proof positive that the most exciting ideas are not found in academia, nor the little mags, but in podcast land. I love how the hosts use their expertise to name a phenomenon any one who loves a white indie guy knows well — chauvinist Dylan worship. As someone who is one of those guys (but also someone who rated Joni above bob, gimmie brownie points), highly recommend. Self crit with nice commentary in pleasing voices and cetera.
I am so grateful for Sophie, Sarah, and Emily’s research, conversation, and artmaking. Their fellow feeling for Connie Converse, and for all the women whose music has been unjustly compared to that other guy’s, is such a balm to me. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves folk music, who loves feminist ramblings and readings of art and culture, and especially anyone who loves Connie Converse (and who didn’t love the Big Biography).
