  • The host constantly interrupts the guest

I’ve listened to this podcast for a while and I think it has great information, I love each of the guest, and I always leave with a new idea. Why I rated it so low is because the main host will not stop interrupting everyone. Every single episode he talks over ever one and repeatedly cuts them off. He seems desperate to tell everyone how much experience he has and how he’s visited a bunch a camps and knows so much about the industry. Every time a guest makes a point he then goes on 10min tangent... more

  • Full of practical information

Somehow I grew up working in a day camp and made it all the way through two years of running my own day camp before realizing there is a whole network of camp professionals in this world. It’s something I never imagined could exist and has been such a support this year. I have found the discussions here very relevant to my business and it has helped me to feel less alone in this niche market! Thank you!!

  • Lots of Good Knowledge

As a camp professional, I always enjoy learning from others in the profession. However, this can be challenging as we can't see other camps in action since we have our hands pretty full in the summer. The Day Camp Pod is a great opportunity to learn alongside some of the best in the business year round. Thanks for doing this!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Thriving in Shared Facilities - with Brianne Feinour and Megan Snape - The Day Camp Pod #128
Q: How do you present shared facilities to parents to reassure them about safety and space?
We frame it around safety—staff uniforms, color-coded groups, walkthroughs, and reassuring parents that space is managed with clear boundaries and communication. We also emphasize that accidents are minimized through training, supervision, and established routines.
Registration Strategies: Data, Decisions & Doing It Right - with Eric Wittenberg - The Day Camp Pod #129
Q: What is the current state of registration in the industry?
It's highly local and nuanced; some areas are aggressive about early enrollment while others are more cautious, but the key is tailoring timing, messaging, and offers to your specific camp market and data signals.
Camp is “the Anti-AI” and The Nature of Leadership - with Andy Pritikin - Intentional Intentionally Leaders
Q: Over the years, has your idea of what it means to be a good person changed?
Andy indicates his core values have remained steady, emphasizing optimism and seeing the positive in people, while acknowledging the toxic dynamics in some teaching environments that influenced his shift toward camp leadership.
Camp is “the Anti-AI” and The Nature of Leadership - with Andy Pritikin - Intentional Intentionally Leaders
Q: What is the director's duty of candor when something goes wrong?
Candor should be balanced with coaching and perspective; organizations must be transparent while coaching staff to handle sensitive information appropriately, especially around safety and abuse concerns, with vault-like controls for extremely sensitive issues.
Camp is “the Anti-AI” and The Nature of Leadership - with Andy Pritikin - Intentional Intentionally Leaders
Q: Tell me about the first time you were responsible for other people's children. What did you get right and what did you miss?
Andy describes transitioning to a school teacher role with student-teaching experiences and learning that building genuine relationships with students—by being present and collaborative rather than relying on charm—was key to earning trust and effectiveness in leadership.
