Composers are asked about intentions, performers about their emotional response to what they take the composer's interieur notated to be, &, worst of all, how "it makes you feel". Tonality remains ruling everything -with a side dish of electronics interpreted as a sort of weird way to accompanying- & of course any deviation from its formative narrative is demanded to declare its gratiduous debth to the classical tradition. Most irritating, really.
Wonderful podcast! Been looking for something like this for a while. Really enjoyed the episode with my friend and fellow composer Juan Pablo Contreras.
A Great Show for Music Lovers! The host discusses interesting topics and discusses the history of it all! I definitely recommend taking a listen!
Do you like classical music, but you feel a bit detached from the people who wrote them? Do you feel like it is all wigs and fancy fingers? Get into the stories of how your favorites songs were created and the famous people behind composing them. This podcast is great for music nerds, history nerds, and people who just want a little more back story for the songs they love. What ever brought you here, Stephen will get you to stick around.
Host Stephen explores the vast and diverse world of classical music. This includes samples of songs (naturally), music theory, history, and guest interviews. I think this podcast is interesting to anyone who enjoys music as well as anyone who is specifically seeking a career in music.
This podcast is perfect for those who love music, are interested in the art of composing, and enjoy guest interviews. The production is high-quality, and Stephen is an engaging and knowledgeable host. The vast and eclectic genre known as classical music is well-represented here, and it’s a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
As both of History nerd and a dance nerd, I loved learning more about Tchaikovsky from this podcast!
I was incredibly impressed with the sound quality, the sound effects, be the overall experience!
I'm normally not a fan of music podcasts, but the composer chornicles was a pleasant surprise. It's interesting learning about the various composers on the show and listening to some of their work.
I spent a LOT of years in undergrad and grad school studying music and composers, and honestly, for a while I was tapped out. Listening to Stephen on the Composer Chronicles has helped me fall back in love with learning about the history of the people behind the music that I love to listen to and perform. He gives their stories life and shows how the lives of these composers affected their works, rather than just giving dates and random facts. I even loved listening to the Wagner episode... and ... more
Just listened to the Reels segment for Disney music. I like the light debate about whether it’s the actual score or the songs that make Disney movies great, what’s the magic Disney chord, and if Pixar measures up to the classic Disney scores.
Stephen is a friendly, welcoming host (and lets his guests do the talking). 10/10 would listen again!
Stephen does a great job of contextualizing classical music! It’s so easy to see big composer names and revere or disparage them based on personal outlook, but the podcast reminds us that they had (and currently have) lives to live, just as we do. From the pain of rejection in Rachmaninoff’s first symphony to the lifelong struggle of Wagner’s Parsifal, every episode opens up some background into how these works came to be. Definitely worth the listen!
Great podcast dude!!!
I have always wanted to study the lives of composers of music but never had the time - and why they composed, their tragedies and successes throughout their life that affected them and their inspirations to create their music - Steven and this podcast gives us a great summary and a peek into their mostly tumultuous and dramatic lives. Love it!!
Such a great conversation of composers and full of knowledge. Host, Stephen, is soothing and very pleasant to listen to. Excited to hear more!
Stephen makes music history accessible and intriguing for his listeners. I recommend listening to Episode 10: Bartok and Bluebeard's Castle - great storytelling!
