Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S5E7 - Field Clinical Specialist, Avantika Pandita
Q: What advice would you give to students aiming for this kind of role?
Be outgoing, ask questions, network early, tailor your resume for the specific role, and seek feedback from colleagues who review resumes and help with interview prep.
S5E7 - Field Clinical Specialist, Avantika Pandita
Q: What does a typical day look like for you in this role?
Days vary; I travel between hospitals, implant devices like pacemakers and defibrillators, and do programming and testing of device parameters in the OR, with some days being long clinic blocks where many patients are seen in one place.
S5E7 - Field Clinical Specialist, Avantika Pandita
Q: Tell me about your background and how you got into your current role.
I shadowed electrophysiology physicians in college, got a contact through one of them at Biotronik, and through a mix of shadowing, networking, and interviews, joined the Raleigh–Durham team in a field clinical specialist role.
S5E6 - Stop Comparing Yourself: What Students Need to Hear About Success with Marcy Bullock
Q: What are the common core traits you see in students who become successful employees?
Bullock emphasizes self-knowledge (interests, skills, values) as the foundation, followed by listening, authentic engagement, and building a mentoring network to grow and contribute meaningfully in teams.
4 - Professional Masters Programs: The Lampe MS MedTech Program
Q: Should I go directly into this program or is it better for me to spend some time in industry or doing something else before I come back to do this program?
About 90% of students come directly from undergrad; those who don't often have a passion for medical devices and healthcare but seek a way to transition into that field.
