  • Appreciate y’all! Great bulls pod!

Fred’s “all vibes” yin to Doug’s analytical yang is a great balance. Exactly what I miss when I can’t chat Bulls with my friends - banter, genuine arguments, intelligent analysis, humility, and humor all from folks who actually watch the games and follow the team.

I’m a Bulls lifer; grew up in the golden years, attended many a game at the UC during the post-apocalyptic 1998-2001 seasons, watched the baby bulls grow up and morph into the Rose years, but the Butler trade just broke me and I sto... more

  • Best Chicago Bulls Podcast of the Bunch

Wish the episodes were more regular (3 a week or something) because I enjoy the voices on this pod so much. The material they cover is interesting and always related to what I want to listen to, the Chicago Bulls. There’s no annoying yelling or empty jokes. Just pure good content.

  • Great

Fred is crazy, Doug is sane. When they get together hijinks ensue. The podcast is about automobile design, but occasionally touches on the Chicago Bulls. Admittedly it seems like strange bedfellows, but I think that’s an overall theme. It is highly recommend.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Big Red Bus - Episode 275 - Bulls Beat Mailbag with Doug Thonus
Q: Would a Jalen Brown-type move have made sense if it could be had cheaply via cap space?
The host contemplates the hypothetical, suggesting that trading into cap space for a star guard like Brown could be appealing if it was affordable, though also recognizing the cost and long-term implications, and comparing it to other potential routes like drafting or developing Caleb Wilson and Modus.
The Big Red Bus - Episode 275 - Bulls Beat Mailbag with Doug Thonus
Q: Is there a realistic path to a star guard or a superstar in the near term, given asset limitations and the current roster?
He notes that while elite guards are hard to come by and assets are limited, there could be opportunistic moves or leveraging future picks and cap space to acquire a high-end talent, but stresses that such moves are not guaranteed and timing is crucial.
The Big Red Bus - Episode 275 - Bulls Beat Mailbag with Doug Thonus
Q: Assuming Caleb Wilson is as strong as Summer League suggested, how would you build around that duo in the next years to be a contender?
Doug argues for an opportunistic rebuild, emphasizing the need to pair Caleb Wilson with Modus and seek a star guard via cap space or favorable trades, while acknowledging the difficulty of landing a top-tier guard and the importance of asset accumulation and future flexibility.
The Big Red Bus - Episode 269 - Graham Hits a HR or Bunt Single Part 2
Q: What is your opinion of what the Bulls have done so far?
Drew responds that he thinks the Bulls have done a good job, highlighting Zach Collins as a veteran frontcourt addition and Norman Powell as a great fit for the first year, with an emphasis on leadership and the long-term timeline for a young core.
The Big Red Bus - Episode 242 - Pressing Questions on the Bulls
Q: Out of the new guards acquired, who should the Bulls keep?
The guest ranks Rob Dillingham first, followed by Jaden Ivy, Nick Richards, and then Yabu Selle. The reasoning centers on age, athleticism, and fit with Giddey and the timeline around Buzelis and Giddey, emphasizing keeping the youngest, most versatile guards to build around.
