Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Downward trend in OM2 and varying sand and N rates by green with T-Jay Creamer
Q: How do you adjust nitrogen on a green-by-green basis, given that you're separating tank contents for wetting agents and iron?
Nitrogen is adjusted by treating each green's GVX average over the past 14 days; the nitrogen in the tank is split so that only nitrogen gets applied when needed, with two passes on greens below target GVX and one pass on greens at target, enabling precise, per-green management.
Firmness, sand, and zoysiagrass with Stewart Naugler
Q: What maintenance practices are you using to keep the ball roll consistent?
Regular top dressing and regular maintenance practices are implemented, including verticutting and using the right wetting agents to maintain surface quality.
Firmness, sand, and zoysiagrass with Stewart Naugler
Q: What are you seeing in terms of the playability of the zoysia grass surfaces?
Stewart highlights that the playability is excellent due to the grass accepting low mowing heights, being able to dry out, and the density contributing to firm surfaces.
Gradation, particle size distribution, sand, and more sand with Adam Moeller
Q: Could you explain those two terms, what they mean and then why those are hot topics?
Sure. So gradation is, you know, basically a way to describe there's six or seven different sieve sizes that kind of all fall under a category of what's called a sand.
The Short Grammar book and summer internships with Jim Huntoon
Q: Can you tell me a little bit about what's required for the students?
Students must complete a summer internship that includes submitting reports and making presentations on their observations and experiences during the internship.
