Sometimes they say things that come across as holier than thou. “ IM not on Medicaid but it’s important” or whatever it was from a recent episode. “ I don’t need this” tends to come across in a patronizing way even if it’s not intended. Love this show and the back history between the hosts that comes out in their chemistry and banter. Their self awareness and willingness to examine previous positions and discussions helps me aspire to be a better person - both personally and in my accessibility work. Releases can be inconsistent at times, but I have enough other shows in my backlog that it's always a nice treat to see one of these show up!
I recommend this to every person I know. I’m disabled myself, and when I didn’t have disabled people to talk to, I had Emily and Kyle. This podcast made me feel heard, and I also learned a lot, particularly from Emily. These conversations are easy ways to come to understand disability and ableism with relatable and/or topical subjects. Five stars.
I could rave about this podcast and Emily and Kyle for centuries. As a lifelong disabled advocate, it’s always an incredible experience when I can find and collect people who just “get it.” I feel seen and heard and understood in a way that I think a lot of people in the disability community feel, yet it’s a narrative that isn’t moving through mainstream society. The remedy? Share this with all your friends and family! You won’t regret it.
