  • I like the podcast but

I’m afraid I can’t stomach any more of Martin’s constant slagging-off of anywhere he doesn’t live. I’m out

  • Outstanding if infuriating

A great pod that describes in painful detail the pathetic vested interested that want to keep the UK poor. From Natural England to the NIMBY Tory set - it’s really a tragedy. Listen and weep. Well done fellas - keep it up.

  • Vital information presented with self deprecating humour

The central theme is that humans - in particular those who live in Britain - need to have abundant clean energy with affordable housing and excellent public transport in order to make the best of their lives.

Oh, and save the planet as a bonus.

  • This has become my essential Monday morning listen

Really great podcast that takes you through the insanity of current planning laws in the UK that are hindering growth and development, from bat tunnels, to NIMBY local councillors imposing ridiculous restrictions on access roads, to councils refusing to engage in fixing a private road that featured in the local plans. Absolute must listen to understand why many think Britain is broken planning wise, but also how to fix it.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Does AI make you stupid?
Q: How should government work differently on a fundamental level?
We can now build a system that is personalized, that is preventative, and that is always on.
Does AI make you stupid?
Q: What do you think are the real world examples of just how stretched public services are and why we need this fundamentally new approach?
Everyone will have an experience of waiting times, trying to get a GP appointment, just the state not functioning in the way that they expect it to function.
Does AI make you stupid?
Q: Could you explain what is an operating model in the sense that we're talking about it here?
The operating model is everything that goes into running public services, the rule book of how they're supposed to be governed, what everybody does, the roles everybody plays in order to deliver them.
Bodge-up and Badger
Q: Is there a way that we can write rules or have a policy about using Chinese equipment on our grid, which does balance these trade-offs of security versus getting the renewables roll out?
It's always going to be a constant balancing act on which reasonable people can disagree on what a tolerable risk is and what a tolerable risk isn't.
Somehow, HS2 to Manchester returned
Q: Should I be optimistic this time?
Fingers crossed, I think you can be this time, yes.
