Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Transforming Death Claims Handling: How CBUS Super Tackled Super’s Most Challenging Process
Q: What is the role of the trustee in the new process, and why codify it in the trust deed?
The trustee is the decision-making backbone; embedding the process in the trust deed provides clear, auditable rules, prevents ad hoc changes, and ensures consistent, defensible outcomes even in complex or contested cases.
Transforming Death Claims Handling: How CBUS Super Tackled Super’s Most Challenging Process
Q: Why did you decide to redesign CBUS death claims handling from the ground up?
We faced a challenging environment with low binding nominations and complex claim-staking processes. By focusing on data, regulatory context, and member experience, we aimed to simplify the nomination process with a non-lapsing binding approach, improve certainty, and reduce delays, while ensuring compliance and transparency through the trustee.
How Will Australians Retire in 2040? Insights from the ASFA Conference
Q: How will the way Australians retire change by 2040?
Retirements are likely to be more discretionary, with longer lifespans and the possibility of people returning to work after retirement; there will be greater emphasis on pension optimization, potentially longer engagement with funds, and the emergence of retirement-focused products that differ from accumulation-focused offerings.
Measuring retirement outcomes with Anthony Saliba
Q: So what are they trying to achieve with these best practice principles?
They aim to provide clearer guidance to trustees on designing retirement income solutions that are fit for purpose, cohort-specific, and supported by evidence while acknowledging the non-binding nature of the principles.
Navigating Death Benefit Claims: Modernising Estate Management in Superannuation
Q: Ben and Sarah, why did you start EstateXchange and what problems were you trying to solve?
We started EstateXchange after seeing how death-related processes in banking and superannuation were fragmented, paper-heavy, and prone to delays. We wanted to build a connected, secure workspace where the 37 parties involved could exchange information, verify documents against trusted sources, and operate in a way that reduces delays and improves the customer experience.
