  • Hard Pass —> Worst Tax Podcast

When one subscribes to a podcast to stay in touch with a specific topic, one expects said podcast to discuss that specific topic — this podcast constantly intermingles social justice political agendas with tax developments. Stay in your lane. If you want to increase your company’s ESG score, then make a leftist political podcast, but don’t mislabel it as a tax-technical podcast.

  • Tax code and economic justice

Ugh.... next time actually include some worth while context from the tax code. Reiteration of economic gaps in the population is a known and well traveled path of conversation... was looking for how the tax code influenced this conversation beyond a singular example in the first time homebuyer credit

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Taxation in Outer Space: How Countries Could Vie for Star Power
Q: What is the central challenge in determining taxing rights for space activities?
The challenge lies in reconciling traditional tax notions of territoriality and residency with a domain (outer space) that has no fixed sovereignty, while considering that most space activity is not yet profitable and that revenue models may not fit old tax frameworks, necessitating thoughtful policy design.
Going, Going, Gone: The Supreme Court Ruling on Trump’s IEEPA Tariffs
Q: How did the Supreme Court resolve these two arguments?
The Court largely found that the tariffs were not authorized under IEPA by textual interpretation, and some justices would also have relied on the major questions doctrine to limit executive power, thereby ending the IEPA tariff regime; the decision was delivered across multiple opinions, with the majority anchored in textual grounds.
Going, Going, Gone: The Supreme Court Ruling on Trump’s IEEPA Tariffs
Q: What happened at the Supreme Court?
The Court split 6-3, with the majority invalidating the tariffs on textual grounds, holding that IEPA does not authorize tariffs and that the term regulate importation does not clearly include taxation, while the dissent relied on the major questions doctrine in some opinions.
Tax Court Chief Judge Talks AI and Transparency
Q: With generative AI in the news, how is the Tax Court approaching this technology internally and in opinions?
Affirms that the Administrative Office is studying AI, judges and staff are watching how it could affect their work, and the court intends to understand and responsibly apply AI as landscape evolves.
Tax Court Chief Judge Talks AI and Transparency
Q: What notable trends or cases have you seen in the wake of Supreme Court decisions and circuit developments affecting the Tax Court?
Discusses how the Tax Court tracks Supreme Court and circuit decisions, the need to align precedents across the court and circuits, and the ongoing analysis of cases like Loper-Bright and related developments.
