Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Clone Wars Rewatch 20 - The Maul Returns Arc
Q: What did you think about the dialogue quality in this arc, given how heavy-handed some parts are?
The discussion acknowledged rough dialogue in places, especially in early episodes, but praised the overall storytelling and character dynamics, noting strong lines and moments that land emotionally even when the writing isn't perfect.
Interview: Dr Chris Kempshall
Q: Were there any elements you wanted to include but couldn't?
None redacted; the team was surprisingly accommodating. The main limits were practical and narrative rather than censorship, shaping what could be opened up without compromising the broader Star Wars storytelling ecosystem.
Interview: Dr Chris Kempshall
Q: How did you handle creating new lore and ensuring it didn't break established Star Wars canon?
We built an archival system within the book that lets Beaumont King source material and footnote it, filling in gaps with plausible in-universe foundations. Lucasfilm Story Group supported exploring new background details while keeping major plotlines intact, enabling fresh but coherent world-building.
Interview: Dr Chris Kempshall
Q: Where did the idea for this book come from and why choose Beaumont Kinn as your point of view character?
The concept grew from a desire to reconstruct a revisionist, in-universe history that could be read both by real-world readers and by characters within the Star Wars universe. Beaumont King serves as a historian-like narrator who can reflect on sources and craft an arguable narrative with footnotes, while allowing space for the reader to question what's real in the Empire's lore.
Interview: Author S.T. Bende and Artist Iris Compiet
Q: How long did it take to develop each illustration for the book?
Typically a few hours per rough sketch, and about 3 months to finalize all art for the volume, but it varies based on reference materials and revisions.
