  • Shame

It’s such a shame they put this podcast behind a paywall as I really liked it. It’s a sensible view on topical issues which was good to hear. I’m absolutely not going to pay £4 a month for one podcast though. Purely out of principle more than anything. Too many subscription models these days and to pay one for a single show is ridiculous.

  • Welcome back

I was an avid weekly fan of the BBC Scotland media review, so disappointed when it was axed. I discovered this podcast a few weeks ago. Great listen.

Entertaining, informative and humorous. I find Radio Scotland news so disappointing now: viewers views; who cares, not me.

Perhaps a guest from the ‘other side’ would be a challenge.

  • Nationalist views

This is an interesting series of podcasts and the format is effective. However, the views expressed are predominantly nationalist views and this is very clear in every episode I have listened to. Each guest seems to be a nationalist pal who just re- enforces the hosts bias. In terms of the hosts that’s fair enough but the guests should be someone who challenges rather than just plays the same tune. This doesn’t need to be binary but have some guests who are not obvious nationalists - this doesn... more

  • Telly Shouter, again 😎

If I agreed with everything and everyone on this pod it would be an utter waste of a listen, intelligent high & occasionally low brow real good listen, I’m embarrassed that I haven’t already fully subscribed to support this ‘island of unsweetened media reporting’ a wee gem.

I will do this ASAP 👍

A must listen to all other ‘Telly Shouters’ take the ‘medicine’ when available 😂

My recommendation on top of this if I can be rude! Is pod by RTE Brexit Republc

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Latest from Iran & Ukraine with David Pratt
Q: Deal or no deal? Is a settlement with Iran feasible or merely wishful thinking?
A durable peace remains unlikely in the near term, given the strategic stakes, with analysts noting a potential uptick in hostilities and continued geopolitical maneuvering rather than a quick resolution.
The Latest from Iran & Ukraine with David Pratt
Q: David, bring us up to date with the situation here.
The discussion underscores that drone warfare has become central to the conflict, with rapid technological evolution and escalating tensions, while broader strategic pressures on Putin and shifting regional alignments shape the outlook.
Opening Up The National with Laura Webster & Stuart Cosgrove
Q: Today's topics include The Election and Royals in the States, but first, how many yachts do you own?
Laura Webster answers that she owns zero yachts, noting the question humorously while setting a tone of candidness.
Political Scientist, UK's foremost psephologist and the media’s favourite electoral dissector - Professor Sir John Curtice.
Q: What are the key differences in voter perception of independence between 2014 and today, and is the independence movement punching above its weight given pro-union media in Scotland and the UK?
Public opinion now shows a stronger link between pro-independence attitudes and EU/ Brexit views, with independence support more correlated with opinions on Europe; the Yes side faces challenges in initiating a substantive debate and persuading voters that independence is a desirable path, while unionist arguments hinge on weighing economic and security considerations in a more interconnected Europe.
Political Scientist, UK's foremost psephologist and the media’s favourite electoral dissector - Professor Sir John Curtice.
Q: Ian Campbell asked how polls affect voting behavior and whether polling should be limited near elections.
Polls can influence behavior in some cases through bandwagon or underdog effects, but their impact is not uniform and depends on voter motivation and the political context; tactical voting can increase when campaigns emphasize who can best defeat a rival, though evidence varies by election.
