About 30 episodes in after listening to a crossover with Dumbgeons and Dragons and am absolutely loving the show! Great chemistry within the party, engaging story line, excellent DM’ing, relatable humor. Everything I could hope for.
If you prefer your games where the GM treats all players equally, and doesn’t make up rules off the top of his head, then this show is NOT for you.
I came over from DnD is for Nerds, and this was a waste of my time. Check out DDifN if you want a MUCH better real-play podcast.
Absolutely addicting and enthralling. The first season took me to levels of emotion that I didn't think existed. The entire cast is fabulous, and the in character and out of character content is what makes it so engaging. I binged the entire playlist and now wait excitedly for new episodes every other week.
I started listening to this podcast after hearing about it on The Lucky Die. I decided to give it a listen one morning and never stopped!! I need more!!
When starting out this podcast. I wasn’t sure where it would go. I don’t wish to spoil anything but it progressively gets better and better with revealing character stories and meaning new characters along the way
I found this show on accident through the special Tomb Of Annihilation Episodes and came to the main show and was even more impressed. The amount of effort that must go into make this show blows my mind, the music is great but the players are even better!
From Barovia to Fearun, these players never cease to amaze.
Worth listening to if you are caught up with Autonomic and Androids and Aliens. The players can’t seem to stay in character and frequently bring OOG info to the table. Pretentious players. GM has a good story but can’t seem to keep the pace interesting. I usually skip through combat. NSFW. Not family friendly.
A lot of fun to listen to with very interesting characters and some great chemistry between all cast members.
I especially love the friendly neighborhood buck master.
This is a really good D&D actual play podcast—production is quality, nice mix of fun and danger, interesting storylines (and tweaks to existing D&D products like Curse of Strahd)...BUT there is some very problematic toxic masculinity among one of the characters/players—he is continually using gross “tactics” to get out of the “friend-zone” with female PCs and NPCs; I wouldn’t mind if this was self-consciously a character choice (which the player seems to think it is); but when he is speaking as ... more
Josh and crew are some of the best D&D podcasters out there and their production shows the time and effort they put into making a quality product. Every single one of them has been a delight to hear and interact with on twitter and discord. You won't find many like them who are so friendly and fun!
I first came across Taking Intiaitive during Dungeons and Dragons' MOF Podcast event. I enjoyed the adventure and immediatly threw myself into the Death Walkers COS campaign and was hooked. The podcast does a great job with mixing gameplay, storytelling and music. Josh is a fantastic DM and all of the players are great. TI also offers mini adventures with other cast running the game. If Curse of Strahd isn't your thing, TI also has a couple of mini-series based on TOA - Hackinstone's Gambit with... more
I can’t explain enough how deeply addicted I am to this wonderful masterpiece of a podcast. It’s a perfect mixture of combat and character development. Well implemented characters that you have no idea how long will actually survive. A dark story line lit up by creative people and a skilled DM. They intertwine humor and heavy plot lines perfectly. Of course, as any podcast is, it starts off a little rough and blossoms into a surprise of better audio quality and magnificent plots twists that keep... more
I thought I didn't like D&D real play podcasts. I thought I found them boring. I thought my nerd cred was up for debate! But then, through the fog and storms of Barovia, Josh Perault and his players (Bucky, Nic, Dru, Donna, Morgan and, occasionally, Celeste and Co) appeared on the hill of Podcasts and showed me the way!
But seriously, this podcast rocks. The DM and the players are good actors who do wonderful voicing for their characters. They really bring Curse of Strahd to life and keep it in... more
Love it. Reminds me of the more loose game play of the campaigns I've played in. More about having fun, the RP, the plot. Love it!
First and foremost I’d like the thank the collective effort of everyone involved with the making of “Taking Initiative”,for brining to my ears the grand and alluring adventures that you all weave together.
This podcast was something I decided to listen to on a whim one day at work after it being promoted by another podcasts that I listen to. Needless to say it was worth the chance and because of listening to this podcast I was thrown head first into the world of DND.
I have laughed,cried,and... more
