自然が身近にある暮らしにあこがれて、田んぼや畑を始めても、自分で森の木を伐採する人は、多くはないと思います。そこには、伐採には技術が必要であるという以上に、農業と比較すると林業に対する心理的な距離感が遠いことも、一要因になっているのではないでしょうか。
長野県松本市の柳沢林業は、そうした距離を近づけるために、自然素材の六次産業化に取り組んでいる林業界のパイオニア企業のひとつ。その代表、原薫さんに取材しました。
