Reviews

4.9 out of 5 stars from 24 ratings
  • Please less lip smacking

This is very well researched and usually very interesting, but both podcasters make all kinds of mouth noises/smacking that is really distracting. I don’t know if they’ve ever listened themselves or have an editor, but it’s enough to take a whole star off the rating.

  • A podcast that embiggens the genre

Deep enough dives into the movie / simpsons relations, but not too deep to scare off the people who aren’t the biggest dorks. Still waiting for the chicken coop to get painted, however

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A Charlie Brown Christmas with Alan Siegel • Non-Denominational Holiday Fun Fest IV
Q: Alan, what is the key ingredient that makes this special?
I think it's the character. Charlie Brown is so unflinchingly moody and sad and kind of questioning.
Interview: Matt Selman on The Simpsons Season 36
Q: Is that a conscious decision or are you guys just more comfortable doing more recent references?
Cultural moments are fewer and far between now that with the death of the monoculture.
Interview: Matt Selman on The Simpsons Season 36
Q: What are you like as a movie fan? What are some of your favorite movies and directors?
I would not call myself a cinephile. I mean, who doesn't like movies? But the job is so sort of exhausting and tiring that like my ability to like savor the cinematic art form is, I don't have the bandwidth for it.
Bram Stoker's Dracula with Dede Crimmins
Q: What is your history or background with the movie?
I saw it in theater when I was 12 and I find it endlessly rewatchable even though I know it’s flawed.
Bram Stoker's Dracula with Dede Crimmins
Q: How would you sum up the movie in a sentence?
I think this is an unfortunately loyal adaptation of an epistolary novel with bad accents and good costumes.
