Please. I love love love this story I’ve spent so many hours listening to a wide variety of audio dramas and this story remains an absolute favorite
Oh soo good
This podcast really drew me in with the beautiful descriptions of the most grotesque the writing and sound design is very well done. I would classify this podcast as light horror/body horror; at least season one. Very creepy and dread building, but not like jump-scare scary or anything like that. Very atmospheric. After season one it turns a little more occult-like. The tone overall is melancholic, but not in a boring way at all. The voice actor is fantastic and her tone and inflection work rea... more
A classic fiction podcast that helped craft the medium. Great acting, sound deign, and a compelling story!
amazing story, great narration, and awesome representation of a nonbinary person/people, in a meaningful way. a touch of eugenicism but I suppose they are the enemies in this story. magnus archives-esque, for people who enjoy that show too
This is my favorite fiction podcast. I usually listen to it again at least once or twice a year. I keep hoping for a sequel that takes place in the world after the trumpet.
If it were just the first season, I would give Spines a 5 - supurbly acted, fantastically creepy, fascinating. Unfotunately it wore thin for me the longer it went on, shifting from horror to some kind of half-baked superhero story about a rag tag team vs equally rag-tag villains. Though I enjoyed some of the elements in the later seasons, the show gets less interesting over time instead of more. This is one time when I feel like the "worse" ending would have been a better choice. But season 1 is... more
Think "X-Men" meets "Supernatural", with a nice dash of Lovecraftian atmosphere and some sweet bits of Cronenberg-esque body horror. "SPINES" is a truly unique experience, and it clearly is one of the best stories I ever heard. "SPINES" is the perfect combination of urban fantasy, well-thought horror, and wholesome romance. It has a perfectly fleshed-out narrator, played by an incredibly talented voice actor, and it masterfully uses the possibilities of its medium. To me, "SPINES" is close to pe... more
Excellent premise and story with a few minor shortcomings. The plot, writing, and world building are all excellent. There is enough variety of story and characters to keep things interesting, and the overall concept is fascinating. The main character can become a bit reductive at points, but there is plenty here to keep things fresh.
Was a little hard to follow but really interesting story telling
Not a fan, too much gore / "body horror".
I have just finished season one and really enjoying the show but for some reason on Apple podcasts episode 24 plays after episode 29. This is the last episode of the show and so a massive spoiler! Unfortunately I didn’t realise until halfway through the episode as I thought it was some kind of flash forward :(
A [mostly] single narrator horror/dark urban fantasy story following a woman with mysterious powers searching for answers about her past she can't remember after a cult ritual. The first season follows Wren as she tracks down the other people who were in the attic with her and she learns why the cult is interested in her. The second season also has a monster of the week format as more of the ongoing plot is revealed. Features cult, apocalyptic and primarily descriptive body horror. The sound des... more
I am not generally a horror fan but came here via the Girl in Space podcast. I thought the concept was quite creative and it had a few surprises for me. Most of the voice acting was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. It’s my first foray into creative fiction podcasts aside from GiS and Levar Burton Reads. I will check out more!
Brilliant storytelling and acting. Will there be more?!
