  • I’m for it

Unpretentious and funny, unlike most literature-related podcasts.

  • The Hogwarts House segment killed it for me

Wanted to give this a chance since the show covers a lot of really good books. Listened to one episode, felt pretty good about them. I kinda thought the Hogwarts house segment was kind of a one-off joke for the episode I listened to; realized it happens every episode. I’m sorry, but I just find that insufferable and unconscionable, especially given JKR’s recent war against trans people. That woman and her crappy children’s books really don’t need anymore cultural currency.

  • Insightful wisdom and analysis, despite its strong language

Our “readers” here have a lot to impart to us. The show doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is probably why it seems to have been overlooked in the literary podcast world. Yet, despite this, their observations are incredibly perspicacious (in-between occasional swearing and on-air belching).

If you’re a fan of Overdue (podcast), you will like this. It is similar in its relaxed structure, but it has a lot to offer.

Susan Choi - Trust Exercise
Q: What did you guys initially think of the end of the first section and the reveal?
The reveal of the novel within a novel aspect made the earlier events seem over-the-top but fitting within the context of a fictionalized account.
Percival Everett - Telephone
Q: Why did you choose to read 'Telephone'?
I wanted to read another Everett book, and the reviews for 'Telephone' were good.
