Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Art of Designing with Intention with Michelle Carr
Q: How do you approach current projects to ensure space design aligns with both people's needs and the brand essence?
I use discovery sessions to understand culture, then translate those insights into the four F's—discovery, findings, feelings, form—ensuring the final design connects with how people feel and how the space supports the brand and wellbeing.
The Art of Designing with Intention with Michelle Carr
Q: What is an early memory of a project that shaped you personally into who you are?
There were many, but early on the process of mind-mapping concepts and the evolution from school projects to real-world spaces showed me how important preparation, research, and understanding the people who will use the space are to delivering meaningful design.
Traditional Design Is Dead with Tracy Drury
Q: What are the big disruptive forces Tracy is seeing at CDW and in design week events?
Tracy notes AI and new materials, plus sustainable and traditional craft combinations, as key drivers, with startups and junior designers pushing fresh ideas that push established brands to adapt.
[Greatest Hits] The Power of Storytelling in Workplace Design with Abigail Reynolds, Project Designer at Modus
Q: If this project was a product, what would it be?
It would be like the Vision Pro—highly designed, futuristic, and premium in its experience, signifying a cutting-edge, integrated workspace concept.
Construction’s most expensive mistake - Measure twice, never assume.
Q: What are three really smart VE value engineering hacks you've seen either on-site or you've done yourself?
Lighting is a primary VE area, and we can reduce costs by exploring alternative lighting options and suppliers, leveraging new technology to preserve the desired effects, and using on-site adaptations to avoid costly reworks; for example, reconfiguring fittings rather than replacing large sections of ceiling, while still achieving the same light levels and aesthetics.
