So refreshing to hear I’m not alone! I went through a similar situation with my chiropractor who I worked with for 8 years. Patients were constantly telling me they preferred the soft tissue work over the chiro adjustments. This created a competition in the eyes of the dr that drove me to eventually leave my job and go out on my own. Best decision I’ve ever made. Thanks for addressing the worth of soft tissue care!!!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Q & A: Why Do I Focus On Chronic Pain & Don’t Treat Acute Pain?
Q: Why do you avoid treating acute pain and focus on chronic pain instead?
The host argues that acute pain often resolves on its own or responds poorly to aggressive intervention, and attempting to push through can create temporary relief but worsen the underlying issue. By qualifying patients and focusing on those with chronic pain, the practitioner can deliver lasting results, justify a higher price point, and avoid burnout from taking on short-term fixes.
Q & A: How To Keep Clients On Continuing Treatment Plan Without Being Pushy?
Q: I've been a massage therapist for seven years now in my solo practice, and I focus solely on injury relief and recovery. How can I structure a maintenance program without coming across as pushy or greedy?
The host suggests reframing care as outcomes, selling phases instead of single visits, and communicating real progress with tangible data. He advises pricing that reflects value, avoiding discounts, and laying out a clear maintenance plan in stages to keep clients engaged without feeling pressured.
Q & A: How To Get My Clients To Do A Shorter Treatment Session❓
Q: Why is shorter better for chronic pain and how does it work in practice?
Shorter sessions optimize treatment dosage, prevent overloading degenerating tissues, and, with a clear initial evaluation followed by shorter follow-ups, maintain or improve outcomes while easing scheduling and reducing practitioner burnout.
Q & A: How Do I Change A Client’s Perspective That “I Am Just A Massage Therapist Like Everyone Else?”
Q: In this episode, I answer a question from a massage therapist from Pennsylvania who is struggling in trying to stand out from other providers in their area and not get lumped into a general label of being just like all massage therapists.
The host explains that clients primarily want solutions to their problems, not credentials, and recommends reframing the practitioner's identity from 'just a massage therapist' to a 'soft tissue injury treatment specialist' who fixes root issues. He outlines a branding approach centered on education and problem-solving, encourages niching (e.g., neck and shoulder or back and hip focus), and emphasizes delivering faster, more effective soft tissue work than competitors, including chiropractors and physical therapists. He also promotes a free training module designed to teach clinicians how to transition from service-based to solutions-based practice and invites listeners to sign up via the episode profile.
Q & A: How To Get Rid Of A Problem Client That Doesn’t Listen To My Advice & Blames Me For Not Getting Better?
Q: How do I get rid of this person while still seeming like I'm not being the bad guy here?
The host suggests firing the client when necessary, referring them to another provider, and using clear, non-defensive language combined with a structured boundary system to prevent future issues, while extracting lessons to avoid repeating the same mistakes with future clients.
