Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

139 | How Rattlesnakes Made Natural History
Q: So what drove you to do your undergrad at Yale?
I applied to one Ivy League school which happened to be Yale, and once accepted, it seemed like a no-brainer for the exposure it offered.
138 | Reptiles in Rapidly Changing Environments
Q: What is your latest research focusing on?
We're studying how lizards adapt to extreme environments, by taking them from the mainland and assessing their physiological responses on small islands that mimic changing climates.
138 | Reptiles in Rapidly Changing Environments
Q: What is it about the place you've been working, and how was it formed?
A big chunk of our research takes place in the country of Panama, right in between Costa Rica and Colombia. We're focusing on the canal zone of Panama, where the Panama Canal was built, creating many islands that serve as laboratories for studying rapid environmental change.
138 | Reptiles in Rapidly Changing Environments
Q: So I want to know how you ended up getting to where you are today. Have you always been into reptiles and amphibians and evolution and ecology, or is this something that hit you like young or something that hit you later in life?
I think I was always sort of a nature fanatic. My father is a scientist and our family likes animals, likes nature.
133 | Snakes from Arizona to Vietnam with Randall Babb
Q: How often do you travel to Vietnam for conservation work?
Randy shares that he typically spends about two weeks a year doing field surveys in Vietnam, in addition to other conservation adventures around the world.
