Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

018: Hugo Lee
Q: What sparked Hugo's move toward street photography and away from wedding/portrait work?
He found street photography more personally meaningful and less repetitive than wedding work, and the move was motivated by a wish to document living moments and avoid the monotony of commercial gigs.
031 Eric Davidove - On the Art of Making Zines and Photobooks
Q: What sparked your decision to publish a zine and then a book, and how did the process unfold?
He attended a workshop for zine making, which helped him see his photos as a sequence and a body, leading to a zine and later a book. The process involved printing, layout decisions, sequencing, design considerations, and learning from mentors, especially Ted Forbes, who encouraged advancing to a book when ready.
031 Eric Davidove - On the Art of Making Zines and Photobooks
Q: So why did you start street photography in the first place, and how did you transition from earlier photography to this field?
He started taking photos to get out of the house during a challenging period, discovered street photography through a Facebook group and local festivals, and gradually shifted from vacations and landscapes to candid street work as he fell in love with the dynamic humor and life on the streets.
032 Geit Eero - "It Messes With Your Head": The Reality of a 1000-Day Photo Challenge
Q: Why did you decide on posting one thousand moments, and what comes next now that you've completed it?
He started with 366 moments over a year, felt misaligned with his initial plan, and extended to a thousand days to restore focus on documenting life and to lay groundwork for a possible book; future plans include more publishing, books, and exhibitions.
021 Wei Jian Chan - On the Making of his Street Photography Book
Q: How did Journey to the West come about, and what themes does it explore?
The book reflects the move from Singapore to London, conveying dislocation and uncertainty through sequences and editing to form a coherent body of work.
