鹿野忠雄是一位熱愛自然的探險家，他在臺灣留下許多珍貴研究，從高山冰河遺跡到原住民文化，都有他的足跡與發現。巧合的是，臺東的「鹿野」與他同名，而這裡的鹿野高台，每到夏天就會舉辦繽紛的熱氣球嘉年華。在鹿野附近的國立臺灣史前文化博物館，從台灣島嶼誕生、冰河時期的自然生態，到卑南遺址的文物，像是搭上了時光機。南下高雄，國立科學工藝博物館是科學迷的天堂，各種互動展覽讓知識變成好玩的遊戲；而壽山國家自然公園則守護珍貴的石灰岩地形、熱帶植物與臺灣獼猴，讓城市裡也能親近大自然。

這次到「後山」探險，從美麗的蘇花公路開始，一路把我們帶到花蓮與台東。太魯閣壯觀的大理石峽谷是立霧溪花了好久好久才刻出來的藝術品。來到七星潭的海邊，我們蹲下來仔細尋找沙灘蟋蟀的身影。走進黃金蜆的故鄉，彎腰在冰涼的泉水裡「摸蜊仔兼洗褲」，蜆要住在乾淨的水裡才能長得漂亮健康，所以我們也要一起守護河川。途中，我們也遇到外來入侵種福壽螺，是破壞農田與生態「不速之客」，提醒我們對待大自然要小心又有責任感。這趟後山之旅不只是玩耍，更像上一堂生態課。下次去花東，你也可以當個小小探險家，發現更多自然的祕密喔！ more
我們印象中的「吸血鬼的蝙蝠形象」其實只是小說寫出來的故事，不是真正的生物行為。真正會吸血的蝙蝠只有生活在中南美洲的吸血蝙蝠，而且牠們主要吸動物的血，跟台灣常見的蝙蝠一點關係也沒有喔！在台灣最常見的蝙蝠是東亞家蝠，以吃昆蟲為主，是路燈下常出現的蝙蝠。另外，台灣還有一級保育類的狐蝠。牠長得像小狐狸，愛吃水果，是熱帶森林中重要的種子幫手。但是，現在台灣的野生狐蝠已經頻臨滅絕，只在綠島、龜山島和花蓮，還能找到牠們的身影。好消息是，像政府單位、國風國中祖濬老師等學校師生、還有許多志工和研究人員，都正在努力... more
