Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#176; S6: Same Surgeon, Different Light w/ Dr. Kazuhiro Yasufuku
Q: How did you roll out EVAS and convince others to adopt it globally?
Persistence, data, and a structured education strategy were key—presenting early results, publishing data, and ensuring comprehensive training through an international education group.
#176; S6: Same Surgeon, Different Light w/ Dr. Kazuhiro Yasufuku
Q: Can you give us an idea of how difficult it is to make the jump from Japan to Canada or the US and repeat all your training?
It's a very challenging transition; retraining from the beginning is often required, and it can mean losing several years, though mid-career staff who already have board certification have a somewhat smoother path.
#174; S6: Same Surgeon, Different Light w/ Dr. Gianluigi Bisleri
Q: How has mentorship shaped your career and what do you pass on to trainees in Canada?
Mentorship is about guiding people through a landscape of many possible paths, encouraging curiosity, cross-technique learning, and building a culture that values patient-centered innovation; I emphasize teaching that there are multiple ways to reach the same goal and to stay open to new iterations and collaboration.
#174; S6: Same Surgeon, Different Light w/ Dr. Gianluigi Bisleri
Q: What first drew you to minimally invasive techniques, and how did your international experiences shape your approach?
Early exposure to robotic surgery and the evolving field of minimally invasive procedures during fellowships, combined with a willingness to explore across countries, influenced my approach to push for safer, more effective, less invasive options and to mentor others interested in this path.
