  • Relationship Matters

I generally enjoy this podcast because it introduces new research in an approachable way. However, I find the host of relationship matters sexist and immature. In the podcast titled "Pillow Talk," he interrupted the author to interject whether oxytocin makes people cuddle. He and his cohost also could not move on from buzz words like "testosterone" and "orgasm." And at the conclusion of the podcast when the author invited further questions, he seemed disengaged and then belittled her by closing ... more

The Road not Taken – Conversations with an Intern, Part 2
Q: What would make you not want to pursue psychiatry, based on your experiences?
Burnout is a key risk, especially if there isn't meaningful change in how mental health care is delivered. If the system remains inefficient and unable to support trainees or patients adequately, it could push someone away from the field.
The Road not Taken – Conversations with an Intern, Part 2
Q: What are you hoping the TAP program will give you or do differently for you?
The TAP program provides protected supervision time, a more balanced exposure between outpatient and inpatient psychiatry, and structured teaching, which should address the supervision gaps I experienced as an intern and help me grow more confidently into a psychiatric role.
The Road not Taken – Conversations with an Intern, Part 2
Q: How did that compare with other rotations you did during intern year, especially in terms of supervision and consistency?
Compared with other rotations, psychiatry felt much more chaotic due to rotating consultants and fewer regular supervisors, which made it harder to get specific guidance on individual patients and increased reliance on self-directed learning.
The Road not Taken – Conversations with an Intern, Part 2
Q: So Allen, so let's start with your time in the psychiatric unit. Can you tell us a bit about what your experience there was like?
It was a chaotic but formative 10 weeks where I learned how to navigate a largely consult-based team, often with limited direct supervision, and I had to adapt quickly to provide patient care with minimal guidance. The experience highlighted the importance of allied health input and the challenges of working in an under-resourced setting.
What is Humility Good For? A Meta-Analysis of Humility, Health, and Well-Being
Q: Could you describe any interesting events that occurred during the process of working on your study and writing the paper?
Sally described the collaborative nature of conducting a meta-analysis and how it opened up new research interests for her regarding cultural humility.
