  • Absolutely amazing podcast

“Rust in Production” has been the podcast to listen to, for my regular drive back home after work, for past one year or so. It has been super engaging and enjoyable. (I and my team use C/C++ at work). Learning about Rust, has been one of the most intellectually pleasing experience, and this podcast has amplified my interest manyfold! Thank you!!

  • Love the podcast!

In 2024 we decided to use RUST in our project for a component. I was sold from the first. I'm not doing development in this team; im leading the team and do devops. Even so, I did some Rust debugging. I found this podcast and i love it!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Helsing with Jon Gjengset
Q: Why did Helsing choose Rust as a greenfield stack from the outset, and how has that shaped development?
Helsing adopted Rust from the start to ensure high resilience, reliability, and predictable performance in life- and mission-critical systems, enabling a cohesive stack from edge devices to back-end services and allowing rapid, safe development without being constrained by legacy tooling.
Radar with Jeff Kao
Q: How long did it take you to build and ship the first version of HorizonDB?
It took about a month to build a basic version for address validation, and around two months to refine it for full production with customer feedback.
Radar with Jeff Kao
Q: Was Rust the only language that you considered for that project?
We considered several languages including Kotlin and Golang, but ultimately chose Rust due to its performance and control over memory without requiring extensive knowledge of C/C++.
Radar with Jeff Kao
Q: What was the tech stack like before you started HorizonDB?
Before HorizonDB, the tech stack included TypeScript for the API server, React and JavaScript for front-end services, and some data processing jobs in Spark and Scala, but nothing that was statically compiled.
Rust4Linux with Danilo Krummrich
Q: How does working in the Linux kernel really look like?
There are various aspects including reviewing patches, maintaining subsystems, and coordinating with other developers. A significant amount of time goes into emails and discussions.
