Celyn Jones on MADFABULOUS, Henry Paget, and Celebrating Queer History
Q: What surprised you most during your research about Henry Paget and his life?
Discovering how much the townspeople forgave and loved him while he challenged them revealed a deeply human narrative: a flawed, generous, and magnetic character whose actions left a lasting cultural impact that went beyond wealth and spectacle.
Celyn Jones on MADFABULOUS, Henry Paget, and Celebrating Queer History
Q: You're about to release Madfabulous. Can you tell me what drew you to Henry's story? And when did you know this had to be your next film?
The appeal lay in a unique, cinematic, and human story that could redefine a theatrical figure in 1890 Wales, balancing creativity with universal themes of belonging, love, and legacy; the film's imagery and Henry's self-expression felt like a transformative opportunity that demanded to be told.
Micha Mirto and Jordan Paul Clarke on Raising Gays - a new musical heading to London for Pride
Q: How do you see music advancing queer stories on stage, and what does Raising Gays add to that conversation?
The score is built to bring energy and accessibility to older characters, using modern, radio-ready songs to bridge generations, making the emotions of a small-town story feel as big as classic Broadway moments while staying intimately human.
Micha Mirto and Jordan Paul Clarke on Raising Gays - a new musical heading to London for Pride
Q: Can you talk about how you collaborate when writing together?
We complement each other; Micha writes and directs while Jordan composes and lyricizes. If one of us overwrites a scene, the other can transform parts of it into a song, allowing the scene to become stronger than its parts, and we continually give each other permission to fail and iterate.
Micha Mirto and Jordan Paul Clarke on Raising Gays - a new musical heading to London for Pride
Q: To start with, can you each share what inspired you to create Raising Gays?
We were looking for a project that could be a meaningful collaboration between us, sparked by a moment when my mum challenged us to tell stories that speak to older LGBTQ+ experiences, not just coming-out narratives, which led to the concept of centering parents and their journeys.
