《あらすじ》暗い顔をして帰宅した大吉、節子と葉子を長子が出迎える。葉子は太郎の親に反対され縁談は自然消滅すると思っていたことと、やりがいのある仕事に打ち込みたいことを両親に話す。やがて大吉は葉子の好きにすればいいと理解を示す。節子もさばさばした様子で、文子と五月に葉子の破談を報告する。その頃「幸楽」では久子の子どもたちを憐れんでキミが買ってやった大型テレビを巡り、子どもたちの間にいさかいが起こっていた。
《あらすじ》孫たちがそれぞれの家に帰り、大吉と節子がほっとしていた岡倉家へ、太郎の母、政子が訪ねてきた。葉子と太郎の結婚に不服があるのではと大吉たちは身構えるが、政子は是非とも縁談を進めたいと笑顔で語る。大吉と節子に異論はない。その夜、両家で祝宴をすることになるが、遅れてきた葉子はこの結婚は無かったことにして欲しいと爆弾発言をして一同を驚かせる。
《対談》今回描かれる端午の節句のような季節の行事が家族を結びつけると、山根基世は語る。岡倉家の娘たちはそれぞれの家庭でもめ事があっても、帰って来る実家があることは幸せなことだと続ける。また大吉が孫たちに買い与えたおもちゃをきっかけに、橋田壽賀子の戦争を憎む強い思いが綴られていることも指摘する。生前、「不倫と殺人は書かない」と明言していた橋田だが、今回はある人物の不倫が明らかに。山根もびっくりしたというこのシーン。のちのちどのような波乱を呼ぶのだろうか…
