  • Let guests speak, please!

This show is going downhill since Tony took back over as host. While there is no doubt he knows our space well, we are tuning in to hear guests and subject matter. Please consider moving forward. Thanks, loyal listener.

  • Awesome and innovative!

This is one of my favorite insurance and risk related podcasts! Nick Lamparelli does a great job extracting great information from his guests. Also, since he is an expert in underwriting and flood coverage it is fascinating to hear his perspective as well. Every guest and episode provides unique perspectives and valuable insights into the inner workings of the insurance industry. Love it!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Salty Adjuster - PIR Ep. 826
Q: What common leadership mistakes in claims organizations make things harder for teams?
Frequent mid-to-upper management changes without explaining rationale, and implementing new vendors or processes without seeking input from those actually affected by these changes.
The Salty Adjuster - PIR Ep. 826
Q: What advice would you give to adjusters to avoid burnout?
Protect personal time, set clear boundaries, schedule breaks, and treat vacation or off-hours as sacred to prevent coming back to an overwhelmed inbox.
The Salty Adjuster - PIR Ep. 826
Q: So you're becoming a recognizable voice in claims, but you do this anonymously. What was the thinking behind doing this anonymously?
The anonymity provides freedom from employer constraints and allows unfiltered, authentic discussions about the claims space without corporate gatekeeping, while still being non-derogatory toward organizations.
Joel Plofsky, VP- PIR Ep. 825
Q: What changed when you moved into product management, and why did that feel like a natural fit?
I brought a unique blend of programming experience and business sense. I joined a project that was stuck and asked questions from both sides—business and technical—leading to the birth of a product manager role. This allowed me to bridge user needs with technical delivery, which fit my background and interests perfectly.
Joel Plofsky, VP- PIR Ep. 825
Q: You made a big shift from actuarial work to life insurance sales and then into technology. What drove that transition?
The exams and the pressure of actuarial paths wore on me, plus I had a family and wanted more immediate results and rewards. I found success in sales initially, but then a neighbor connected me with a life insurance role, which eventually led back into tech through a data-driven claims system project at Foster & Higgins, which Marsh later acquired.
