  • Super informative!

Photo Dump is a wealth of information for any up-and-coming photographer. There are tons of podcasts that interview photographers and explore the basics, but this is the only one I know of that gets into the details of what it’s really like to be a working commercial photographer.

Q: What are you best and worst at?
Best under pressure and worst at sometimes moving too fast when shooting, leading to missed opportunities for perfect shots.

It started with a collaborative project on food photography, which evolved into the idea for the cookbook with an agent and publisher.

Q: What was your biggest lesson learned from working with Irving Penn?
He had no ego and believed in teaching, which set a gold standard for working collaboratively in the industry.
#34 - Yve Assad on balancing career and motherhood
Q: Do you feel like, though, it would be hard for you either way, or is it something that you could hire additional support for said shoot to make your job somehow easier?
I think my answer might be much different than Yve's, as my difficulty was more about mobility on location shoots while being pregnant.
#34 - Yve Assad on balancing career and motherhood
Q: Before deciding to start a family, did you ever go through the stage where you weighed pros and cons of having the family and how it would impact your career?
Yes, I have been a planner and considered how having a child would affect my career, but ultimately, I believed everything would fall into place.
