  • An absolute joy

I’ve been listening to Perfume Room for since 2022 and it is one of the podcasts I look forward to the most. Get ready to embark on an olfactive journey and learn about the stories, inspirations, and artistic visions behind the world of fragrance. Emma is an excellent host and attentive interviewer who knows how to ask the right questions and keep the conversation both technically interesting and broadly relatable. Plus, Emma runs an incredible Smell Club (it’s like book club but for fragrance!)... more

  • Delightful, accessible, and educational :)

Can’t believe I’ve never written a review, but I first started listening to Emma during the pandemic and found the podcast SO comforting and delightful. Despite being accessible and fun I’ve learned so much about fragrance from Emma’s interviewing and narrative skill. Highly recommend for perfume novices and experts alike :)

  • Come for the Perfume, Stay for Emma

Love this podcast. Emma is a first-rate interviewer—curious, informed, and genuinely great at what she does. If you’re someone who judges a podcast in a nanosecond based on the host’s voice (guilty!), give this one a real listen. I wasn’t instantly pulled in, but now I adore everything about Emma & the show. Settle in & enjoy!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

206. JANA MENARD [Fragrance Vault] ~ What Happens to Your Perfume When You Die?
Q: What are you wearing, fragrance-wise?
Jana describes the Infini reformulation (1971) by Gerard Leforte, highlighting its aldehydic, futuristic character with jasmine, rose, and a mossy woody base; she notes its vintage appeal and how it feels like an old-school French classic with a forward-looking edge.
207. DAISY BOW ~ 'Gourmands,' 'Authenticity,' & Other Western Constructs.
Q: What makes someone a good guest on a fragrance education podcast like this?
A guest who can connect fragrance to culture, history, and education, and who can articulate nuanced perspectives on authenticity and decolonization while sharing personal experiences, is ideal.
207. DAISY BOW ~ 'Gourmands,' 'Authenticity,' & Other Western Constructs.
Q: How do you view the gourmand category in terms of cultural authenticity?
Gourmand is a Western construct that can be broadened or reframed; it should not be limited to dessert-like notes and can include notes rooted in other cultures when contextualized respectfully.
207. DAISY BOW ~ 'Gourmands,' 'Authenticity,' & Other Western Constructs.
Q: What is your take on reformulation and how it affects fragrance legacy?
Reformulation should be seen like vintages in wine—something natural that preserves memory and enables continued experience of a scent, even if notes shift over time.
205. GEORGE TEDDER [IFF PERFUMER] ~ Eau de Toilette (Bowl Cleaner): Scenting the Unsexy.
Q: What do you do?
He explains he is a perfumer at IFF working in home care as well as fine fragrance, describing his role and variety of projects from plug-ins to detergents, and the collaboration across regional teams.
