  • Too … short???

As an atheist, I was a bit skeptical of how these conversations would play out, but I have found the candor, and vulnerability of the hosts and the insights of the guests (and the hosts) are generating conversations that are deeply relatable, engaging and helpful.

  • Sound, compassionate advice.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this podcast and appreciate the multi-disciplined approach to providing compassionate, loving guidance (not necessarily direction) to raising my sons. Helping me remember to see and love them just as they are, with gentle parental bumpers reinforcing the foundation they have at home is a great approach to parenting today.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Screen Time and the Developing Brain
Q: What practical steps can parents take to manage screen time without drama?
Use proactive planning like a family media plan, set tech-free zones, implement a tech-contract with clear consequences, and practice connecting with kids during transitions to help them disengage.
Screen Time and the Developing Brain
Q: What is the limbic system and why does it matter for screen time decisions?
It is the emotional center of the brain; when kids are highly stimulated by screens, they get emotionally dysregulated and rely on the limbic system, making it hard to use higher-order thinking until they calm down.
Kendra Delahooke - Helping Kids Feel Understood, Not "Fixed"
Q: What does a regulated parent look like in moments of chaos?
A regulated parent maintains awareness of their own nervous system, stays present, and adapts to the child's fluctuating needs rather than reacting impulsively, recognizing that regulation is a process rather than a fixed state.
Mary Cantwell - Sleep Support That Actually Works
Q: What are the biggest myths about sleep you encounter, and how do you address them?
Common myths include that crying it out is the only option or that a bed alone will fix toddler sleep; she emphasizes multiple valid approaches, safety-first guidelines, and meeting families where they are, rather than pushing a single method.
Mary Cantwell - Sleep Support That Actually Works
Q: What ages do you work with, and how do you handle sleep regressions across early childhood?
Mary explains she works with newborns up to five years old, with special consideration that traditional sleep shaping isn't appropriate until around four months; regressions are common as children transition through development, so staying consistent and adapting strategies to the child's needs is key.
