  • Great farming podcast

A well produced and informative podcast, love the episodes where they go into farmers lives.

Wish they included poultry farming into their episodes, we’re a big part of farming too but we’re are often missed out in comparison to beef, dairy, arable, sheep etc etc

  • Show review

Although a good show it is frustrating that it is very English centric and from my long term listening as far as I am aware has had no content from a Northern Irish perspective.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Politics, pigs and price caps in focus at Royal Highland Show
Q: What is the current stance on price caps according to NFU Scotland and government officials?
NFU Scotland argued for protecting primary producers and warned of detrimental effects if price caps are not carefully regulated, while government officials stressed the need to safeguard producers and maintain a vibrant, profitable sector, signaling ongoing discussions rather than immediate policy changes.
Behind the scenes at Cereals 26
Q: Right, so Tom, there is a lot going on as ever. And the news has just come in today, that as of tomorrow will be announced the budgets for SFI 26, with a 60 million window for window one, which starts at the end of June.
Bradshaw explains the tight timing and pressure on operators to access the new scheme, emphasising that many farmers are still outside SFI and that the available budget may not meet demand, which could affect resilience and future planning.
Why the platinum ten minutes matter after an on-farm accident
Q: Can you talk me through the differences between rural and urban emergencies and why those differences matter for response times?
Rural emergencies include farm-specific hazards like tractors and livestock, and response times are longer due to geography and dispersed populations; the app helps bridge that gap by guiding lay responders and providing precise location data to emergency services.
From the classroom to the cattle shed - lecturers and students discuss careers in farming
Q: And to anybody thinking about a career in agriculture, what would you say to them besides come to Myerscough?
Emphasize that the sector offers broad opportunities, mobility, and the chance to be part of a dynamic, evolving industry that combines practical skills with modern business and technology.
The wool industries fascinating farm to fabric journey
Q: Brilliant. Very interesting. So can you start by talking me through the types of wool that there are and where those come from?
Harriet explains there are many British sheep breeds and that wool characteristics like micron count and staple length help determine suitable end products, from fine wearables to outerwear and home textiles, emphasizing the need to match breed and fiber properties with product goals.
