  • Keeping it fun but full of facts

I may be biased as I love ska music in all its manifestations and have been a guest on the show, but Matt and RJ do a great job and bringing out the best of their guests, and the ska news and ska picks are worth it alone. Always finding new bands!

  • SKA! SKA! SKA!

Matt and Aaron have created an AWESOME (or dare I say SKA-some) show for all the ska fans out there. It’s great to hear comprehensive discussions centered around this fun and lighthearted genre as well as commentary on ska / punk culture past and present. If you are interested in ska, you won’t find many guys more dialed into the genre than these guys.

  • Two Guys, Ska and Sometimes Guests!

I was turned onto this show by a friend of mine and I can’t thank her enough!

Matt and Aaron, then Matt and RJ do a great job of exposing listeners to musicians new and old. Segments like pick of the week and ska around the world bring listeners new music weekly, and the guys do a great job of brining bands on to the show to share and talk about their music.

What I like about the podcast is that the hosts really make the show feel intimate. You feel like you’re in the room talking about ska ... more

  • Interesting & Fun Perspectives on Ska!

This podCast is so fun and interesting because the two hosts represent opinions and experiences both as a member of a Ska band, as well as a very well-researched fan of Ska Music. You get to hear these topics from both the perspective of a band member as well as the perspective of a fan. It is informative and well planned-out, while also being fun and causal - a nice balance. It’s also great to be introduced to new Ska music from all over the world.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Late For Life (EP.289)
Q: Is a band's best known song ever its best?
Hosts explore the idea that a band's most famous track is not necessarily its best musically, using examples like Real Big Fish and Radiohead to illustrate that popularity and artistry can diverge, and noting that sometimes the biggest hit is the song that helps them reach audiences widely.
Late For Life (EP.289)
Q: Tell us your ska origin story.
Neil explains how an older brother and friends introduced him to ska in high school, leading to the formation of a band and the evolution into Late For Life, describing the long-running collaboration and the band's California roots.
Suburban Legends (EP.288)
Q: How did Suburban Legends end up doing a UK tour with a full horn section in 2023?
They decided to test the waters with an acoustic run first, which validated interest, and then committed to a fuller, seven-piece horn-driven lineup for a proper tour based on that positive response.
The Taj Motel Trio (EP.278)
Q: How did you get into playing music, not just Ska specifically?
Sean explains music coming from his saxophonist father and the itch of playing that keeps pulling him back, while Ben reflects on starting with trumpet in high school and moving to guitar for band-building reasons.
Pioneer Valley Ska Festival 3 (EP.283)
Q: How do you approach booking for PV Ska Festival 3, especially with headliners and cross-country bands?
Start with smaller regional bands to build a network, then lock in headliners later; leverage connections across the country to expand the lineup while prioritizing bands that can tour regionally before and after the festival.
