Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Johnny Mocny and the Dual Citizenship
Q: What does success look like for you in stand-up?
Success means being able to make a living from comedy while continuing to grow and refine, and not necessarily achieving household-name status; it's about sustainable progress and enjoying the ride.
Johnny Mocny and the Dual Citizenship
Q: How long did it take you to feel part of the Chicago scene?
I feel like I became part of the Chicago scene after making frequent trips, meeting people, and ultimately establishing roots with my roommate; it was a gradual process of integrating rather than a single moment.
Johnny Mocny and the Dual Citizenship
Q: What advice would you give to someone moving to a bigger comedy scene?
Dip your toe in but focus on meeting people and building real connections; don't just drop into a new city with the mindset of immediately conquering everything—start by getting to know the locals, work existing rooms, and gradually prove yourself around town before expanding.
Tony Sykowski and the Strip Tent Show
Q: Are you ever nervous to reach out to anybody anymore?
Initially it felt awkward reaching out, but politeness and clarity about the show helps, and most people understand the game; if someone says no or doesn't respond, it isn't personal.
Bob McClure and the Last Days in Akron
Q: What made you get on stage?
He has a theater degree and always loved stand-up; the craft appealed due to control on stage, love for analyzing characters, and the ease of getting into open mics.
