Somehow several hours of research and a decently lengthy script led to an 18 minute episode. I'm not sure how that happened unless I really talk that fast.
Continuing on with last episode's Bigfoot / Sasquatch info, this episode we delve into the fo... more
TW: No triggers I can see.
Bigfoot is Appalachia's most well-known cryptid. Probably the entire US, really. How have I made it this long without making an episode about the big, hairy guy himself? Part I of this two parter gives some Bigfoot basics,... more
I just wanted to make a lil' year end wrap-up episode for the first full year of Obscure Appalachia. I talk about your favorite episodes, offer some bonus stories, and share my own favorite episodes as well. I also discuss some general thoughts on th... more
This episode completes this round of listener submissions. Just like last time, there's a nice array of different experiences here. I tried to divide them up so each episode wouldn't be one solitary type of encounter. One of my favorite parts of doin... more

Obscure Appalachia is unlike any podcast I’ve listened to. I love creepy stories, and have scoured for podcasts I can get into. Most podcasters (in my opinion) go off on boring tangents, or make jokes, etc. but not Candis! Her voice is soothing in contrast with the unsettling stories. If you’re questioning wether to give it a listen, just hit play and you’ll be hooked!
This is probably my favorite Appalachian podcast I’ve found! As an Appalachian myself I’ve heard some of these stories before and they’re accurate to what I grew up hearing. The ones I haven’t heard are interesting and captivating. Plus I like her voice, very soft and great for storytelling. I have sensory issues so I can’t get into a podcast if the voice is irritating but that’s not the case here.
The content is great but I have a hard time keeping engaged because the voice is soft.
And the topics are amazing
You can tell Candis takes pride in her podcast by the amount of research she summarizes in each perfectly articulated episode. I enjoy how Candis shares her opinion and breakdowns her thought process as she was conducting the background research at the end of the episode.
