  • An honest pod

I made the move from the UK to NZ, along with my family, in October 2025. In the preceding year or so of build up to the move I found Liz and Brian’s podcast to be a great source of energy, which at times was much needed to keep the spirits up and keep pushing on with everything! I’ve never joined the community, it sounds really useful and helpful, but the podcast alone is at the moment enough for me and I still tune in even now we’re here and settled and I still find it to be useful and enterta... more

  • Advice

Use Wise for currency exchange, we have been here for 3 years now and still use them to transfer money between US banks and NZ banks. Don’t waste money on immigration advisors. We used NZ shores for over a year before realizing the immigration office is really helpful, if you miss anything in your application they will let you know. UNDERSTAND MĀORI CULTURE. This almost never comes up in this podcast. Māori are the indigenous people of this land get to know some basic tikanga and acknowledge the... more

  • 7 Questions!

So many of my friends actually didn’t know if folks speak English here! I’ve been on this island two years now (from America) and was recently introduced to this pod from another woman from America, who I’ve just met last week. Such a great listen.

Over 55 and Long to Immigrate to New Zealand? The AGE WAIVER VISA Could be Your Answer
Q: Is it guaranteed to get approved?
No, it is not guaranteed; applicants pay a ministerial-directed fee of around $200 for a special direction, but success depends on the strength of the argument and other visa criteria; the firm claims a high success rate because they select cases carefully.
Over 55 and Long to Immigrate to New Zealand? The AGE WAIVER VISA Could be Your Answer
Q: Who can apply and who tends to use age waivers?
Typically doctors and other health-care professionals on New Zealand's long-term shortage list use waivers, because their skills are in high demand and can justify allowing an older applicant to reside if they can demonstrate ongoing contribution to NZ.
Over 55 and Long to Immigrate to New Zealand? The AGE WAIVER VISA Could be Your Answer
Q: What is an age waiver and how do you apply for it to come to New Zealand?
An age waiver is a special direction requesting the immigration minister to waive the age eligibility so a person over 56 can apply for residence; the process is case-by-case, requires a strong argument, supporting documentation, and is usually handled by an immigration advisor or lawyer; it does not bypass the need to meet other visa criteria.
HUGE Changes To Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa in 2026: Is This Your Opening?
Q: What are you most excited about this change?
I'm most excited about the two new complete pathways for trades and technicians that will allow many who have not been eligible to date to finally access residency in New Zealand.
Why This French Family Left Everything to Move to NZ (Then Went Back)
Q: What advice would you give to French people who are watching this, wanting to move to New Zealand?
Just thinking about it, just make it happen. You'll never ever regret it.
