  • Commissioner, Michelle Turnberg

If there were a minus star, that would be my rating of this episode. I chose 1 for the sake of an actual rating. A stark contrast to the "point" you were supposedly getting at all episode long; which was how does the commissioner plan to get rid of the homeless in Fargo. I was only left to assume that was your point, since you asked one sided questions as if the commissioner has total control and/or authority to rid the city of their homeless population. Newsflash: The taxpayers have no more or ... more

  • Medina Shootout Episode

Just listened to this episode. Pretty pathetic to listen to grown men who are journalists sit around and talk about how this “affected” them. Why not interview the survivors of US Marshal Muir and Deputy US Marshal Cheshire? See how this incident affected them. These men were sworn law enforcement officers with an arrest warrant for Gordon Kahl. It was there duty to try to arrest him. It was an ongoing case. I was a Deputy US Marshal for 26 years and this incident was a crucial part of the hist... more

Cory Haala discusses new book, "When Democrats Won the Heartland: Progressive Populism in the Age of Reagan, 1978-1992"
Q: Where can people find your book and why should readers engage with this history today?
The book is available through the University of Illinois Press, as well as major retailers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble; I hope readers see how regional populism informed public policy and how these lessons remain relevant for understanding grassroots politics and economic resilience.
Cory Haala discusses new book, "When Democrats Won the Heartland: Progressive Populism in the Age of Reagan, 1978-1992"
Q: I want to talk to you a little bit about the book. Something made you say, I'm going to write this. I'm going to write about this era. What was it?
I was studying the traditions of the farmer-labor and nonpartisan movements and realized there was a coherent, momentous story about how populist impulses in the upper Midwest shaped policy and politics, from state banks to farm relief, that hadn't been fully explored before.
News and Views is live from Hovde Resort in Devils Lake

Q: Why run as a Democrat and what distinguishes you from your opponent?
She runs to keep a people-focused approach, emphasizing health care, education, and community outcomes, and contrasts herself with the incumbent by highlighting different experiences and policy approaches.
