1970年代，本地学校逐步转用英语为授课媒介。当时在淡马锡初级学院教经济的吴中博，成为第一批经历教育转型的老师。
短短一个月内，需要从华语改为用英语讲课，这对吴中博来说是极大的挑战。吴中博坦言，在他用英语主讲第一堂经济课后，自觉讲得不流畅，甚至一度写下辞职信。
