  • Educational and charming

I don’t find Breen’s work entertaining; these are not even movies or films. But I do share a scientific interest in Breenology. And while a number of folks have dissected the oeuvre of the Breen, this podcast series is a unique look at how the sausage is made. The listener will learn about how projects in this area of life are put together and might take away some practical lessons (including what not to do). The guests are both gracious toward Breen yet also sober in their assessments of thei... more

  • Great show!

Strong recommend if you love the king of bad movies, Neil Breen. Insightful interviews with people who have direct knowledge of Breen from working with him.

Only downside is the musical stings are way too loud compared to dialogue audio. Makes me jump every time. Better mixing. Please.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep#14 - Kansas & William Bowling (from Dire Duplicity)
Q: What attracts you to Dire Duplicity then? Is it just another job, or is it Neil Breen himself?
William explains that his involvement was driven by his daughter Kansas and the opportunity to work with Breen, highlighting Breen's unique filmmaking vision and the appeal of contributing to something they believe in as a family project.
Ep#14 - Kansas & William Bowling (from Dire Duplicity)
Q: So was the table read, was that part of the audition process, or what was the audition process that you went through for this?
The actors describe a non-traditional audition process conducted at Neil Breen's office in Vegas, with chosen participants meeting in person, informal introductions, and then receiving roles based on fit rather than standard auditions.
Ep#14 - Kansas & William Bowling (from Dire Duplicity)
Q: What can you tell us then about your character?
Kansas or William discuss not reading full scripts in advance and how the character was developed through on-set direction and wardrobe control, with emphasis on secrecy around the project and the process of table reads that previewed scenes.
Ep#13 - Jeremy Chavez & Addyson Medley (from Cade: the tortured crossing)
Q: For you, how did the audition process work?
There wasn't a formal audition; I was brought in very late in the process, given no script, and told to improvise, which was unusual but ultimately part of Breen's approach to casting and directing.
Ep#13 - Jeremy Chavez & Addyson Medley (from Cade: the tortured crossing)
Q: How did you find out about these auditions?
I already knew who he was, so when I heard he was casting a movie, I submitted through his email after seeing posts on Facebook; I applied multiple times because I really wanted to be part of it.
